MOBILE MAKERSPACE IS READY FOR ACTION
BY KYLE OBLONG
Our brand new, 22-foot trailer brings to our partner schools all the tools and materials necessary to build a canoe. Students can now learn about the initial milling process and how to work with more advanced tools. Also, the Makerspace will help the Urban Wilderness Program reach more organizations outside the Cincinnati area.
Of course, there are tape measures, clamps, drills, drivers, saws, spoke shaves and hand planes. For power, there is a 9500 watt generator. For safety, we purchased a SawStop table saw. This is the saw that stops instantly if any body part touches a moving saw blade.
This beautiful workspace was built by Caged Crow Customs, a small fabrication shop in St. Germain, Wisconsin that specializes in custom food trucks and shipping container conversions. Their attention to detail and fine workmanship sets a high bar for our staff and students!
